Two wheels, one passion

Alta Badia is a corner of paradise for all bikers, whether they are keen on road bikes, mountain bikes, fat bikes or e-bikes. Those who prefer pedalling on paved roads, can tackle the great cycling classics which are the passes of the Dolomites. The itineraries that particularly stir up the cyclists’ blood are those of the Maratona dles Dolomites and of the Giro d’Italia. For a more relaxing ride take advantage of the Sellaronda Bike Days, when the roads around the Sella Group remain closed to traffic letting the cyclists fully enjoy this wonderful trail where every turn opens up stunning views. Those who prefer riding off-road, are welcome to challenge their abilities on the numerous MTB trails. Advanced riders can experience extraordinary adventures with touring and enduro. On the slopes of Gardenaccia, right above Sportony Mountain Lodges, you will find a magnet for all freeriders – the Garenaccia Downhill Area.

Hiking through the mountains

Those who have a good pair of walking shoes and crave for adventures, can enjoy in Alta Badia a wide choice of trails that range from farm visits to walks across highland pastures, from trekking on the plateaus spotted with glittering mountain lakes to hiking in the Nature Parks Puez-Geisler and Fanes-Sennes-Prags with countless breath-taking viewpoints. To change the rhythm, go speed hiking and trail running. To add a bit of fun, try geocaching and orienteering.

Every summer they excite sporting fervour, reveal cultural treasures and let you taste amazing flavours… They are numerous events and entertainment offers that add a particular touch to your summer holidays in Alta Badia.
The most important sporting event is certainly the famous Maratona dles Dolomites, that attracts at the beginning of the summer season 9000 cyclists from all over the world. Among the cultural events deserve a special mention the concerts of the Festival Badiamusica (including performances in the historic Colz Castel in La Villa), the Val Badia Jazz Festival and the project “Cantando per rifugi” (“Signing in the mountain huts”). The most spectacular events usually take place in the middle of August, such as, for esample, the Ferragosto Parade and the mid-August Ski Show in La Villa. To alternate the food for mind with the real culinary delights, take advantage of the numerous gastronomic events, including courses of Ladin cuisine, village outdoor parties and the appointments of the project “Peaks of gastronomy”.

In search of adrenaline

Alta Badia is also a land of extreme sports, like paragliding and hang gliding, slackline, base jumping and lots of other activities, for which the terms "breath-taking" and "heart-pounding" are no stereotypes. The sheer cliffs of Sass Dlacia, of Sass dla Crusc / Kreuzkofel (Messner's Way on the Great Wall) and of the Sella Group (Vallon and Pisciadù areas) with their fixed-rope tracks and climbing trails have always attracted numerous thrill-seekers. Get ready for a challenging experience, but rewards are guaranteed: gorgeous views, indescribable emotions and the heady feeling of having just conquered the Dolomites.

Family holidays

Alta Badia is a perfect destination for a family holiday, funny and educational at the same time. There are lots of trails through the emerald puzzle of woods and pastures, easy enough even for the smallest hikers. Try, for example, the Tru dô l’Ega trail along the lively stream Rü Tort, or the Tru dles Viles trail that winds among the traditional Ladin farms, otherwise follow the Tru di Tiers trail with the wooden figures of the wild animals of the Dolomites. Worth visiting are also the Adventure Park and the Animal Park in Colfosco, as well as the Deer Park Paraciora next to La Villa. To reach the highland attraction, take the Piz la Ila cable car that will bring you to the world of entertainment Movimënt composed of three theme parks, connected by a maze of charming paths. Children over 4 years old can participate in the exciting activities of the Summer for Kids project, including guided hikes, farm visits, sporting contests, barbecues and many others.

Traditions and culture

Summer is the season when you can’t avoid encounters with the Ladin culture and its unique traditions. Born in the isolated mountain valleys, this extraordinary culture with its own language, with its own rites and customs is still alive. Found out more by visiting one of the Ladin museums of the Val Badia. Even though, in summer, the whole valley turns into one single open-air museum. Take a look around you and start counting the traces of the ancient Ladin culture: traditional rural settlements “les viles”, ancient farms, typical fences and dry stone walls, water mills, artisans’ workshops (especially those of wood carving and artistic weaving), processions and feasts and everywhere inscriptions in Ladin that create the feeling of finding yourselves in a small independent world, a fairy-tale kingdom, hidden among the ridges of the Dolomites.
